Fungus Gnats (Sciarid Fly) are well recognised as a serious pest to professional plant propagators, hydroponic and greenhouse growers.

Use Nemassist® nematodes to control the larvae in cryptic habits. Beneficial nematodes follow the Carbon Dioxide gradient produced by the larvae and seek them out where chemicals are unable to make effective contact.

The nematode is naturally occurring and mass reared.

We recommend Steinernema feltiae as the most effective treatment available. Chemicals can stunt plant growth and harden plant tissue. Particularly the cells in growing tips.
These natural predators won’t harm people, pets, plants or beneficial insects.

Apply at a rate of 15 Million nematodes per 30 m2 as a curative or 15 Million nematodes per 60 m2 as a preventative.
Preventatively apply once a month. For smaller areas or if using for a heavy infestation, apply a third of the pack at a time, 7-10 days apart to ensure no product is wasted.

Soil temperature should be above 12C at the time of application for nematodes to be active.

Apply by watering can, pump sprayer or knap sack after removing any fine filters. (< 0.5 mm). They can also be applied with some brands of hose end sprayers .

How are EN’s applied to the lawn?

EN’s are applied like any conventional spray application via a back-pack sprayer, boom spray, watering can or venturi hose end sprayer. Just remove any fine filters (less than 0.3mm). There is no need for any protective equipment as required for chemical applications.

While the application of EN’s is easy the correct handling of the product and timing of the application is critical to it’s success. Please read and follow the shipping instructions carefully.

How often will I need to apply EN’s?

If applied correctly, one application will control an entire generation of lawn grub. This means only one annual application is required.

When should EN’s be applied?

EN’s can be applied as a preventative treatment (before damage is noticed), in early December for African Black Beetle and early February for Argentine Scarab.
Or a curative treatment when damage is first sighted.

Will EN’s damage beneficial soil organisms?

Definitely not! EN’s are naturally occurring organisms that are mass reared. They will not affect earthworms, microbes or any other beneficial organisms.

Application frequency

If applied correctly, one application will control an entire generation of lawn grub. This means only one annual application is required.  Alternatively apply as a preventative when larvae are developing.

Spray the EN’s onto the lawn and then water them well in to carry them down off the grass leaves and through the thatch into the root zone where the scarab larvae are.
To maximise the follow on infectivity keep the lawn well watered for the next few weeks so the EN’s can more easily move from one grub to another.
